DR. PAUL ISRAEL - VICE CHAIRMAN

As the director and general editor of the Thomas A. Edison Papers at Rutgers- the State University, Paul is uniquely prepared to serve on the Board of the TECMP.  To date, the project at Rutgers has produced seven volumes of The Papers of Thomas Edison as well as an online edition with nearly 200,000 document images available. Therefore, Paul is a valued member of the TECMP Board, serving as the Vice Chairman.

Paul is the author of numerous articles and three books about Edison. The book titles include Edison: A Life of Invention (Wiley and Sons, 1998), From Machine Shop to Industrial Laboratory 1830-1920 (Johns Hopkins, 1992) and with co-author Robert Friedel, he composed Edison’s Electric Light ( Johns Hopkins, 2010 and Rutgers 1986). Paul was the recipient of the Edelstein (Dexter) Prize from the Society for the History of Technology for his first book, Edison: A Life of Invention. The subjects of his works include technological creativity, the origins of modern invention, technological enterprise, patent regimes, and the intersections between science, technology, and business.
